FedCSIS 2018

TrichoLAB Challenge is a data mining competition organized within the framework of International Workshop on Artificial Intelligence in Machine Vision and Graphics (AIMaViG’18). The task in this challenge is to design an algorithm for accurate marking of follicle positions on microscopic images. The competition is kindly sponsored by TrichoLAB.

Topic outline

  • TrichoLAB is a research laboratory specializing in analyses of hair and scalp disorders based on microscopic images. One of the basic parameters derived from the images are coordinates of the follicular openings – the places, where hair appears on the skin. The purpose of this challenge is to find the most effective and robust algorithm to generate the complete "map" of follicular openings on the image. The potential applications of this “map”, apart from hair disorder diagnosis, include biometry as it has similar properties to fingerprints – is unique for the individual and the location on the scalp.

More details regarding the task and a description of the competition data can be found in Task description section.

Special session at AIMaViG'18: We are planning to organize a special session devoted to the competition at the conference. We will invite authors of selected reports to extend them for publication in the conference proceedings (after reviews by Organizing Committee members) and presentation at the conference. The publications will be treated as position papers. The invited teams will be chosen based on their final rank, innovativeness of their approach and quality of the submitted report.

Awards: Authors of the top-ranked solutions (based on the final evaluation scores) will be awarded prizes funded by our sponsor:

    • First Prize: 1000 USD + one free FedCSIS'18 conference registration,
    • Second Prize: 500 USD + one free FedCSIS'18 conference registration,
    • Third Prize: one free FedCSIS'18 conference registration.

In addition, an author of the most interesting solution among student entrants will be offered a paid internship at TrichoLAB. The award ceremony will take place during the FedCSIS'18 conference (Sep 9-12, 2018, Poznań, Poland).
